iHelp - UI Day of Service - Project in Central Park

We are proud to participate in this year's iHelp, a day of community service when both students and alumni volunteer in the name of our Alma Mater. The NYC rendition of iHelp 2017 will be a gardening project in Central Park.

iHelp is an annual day of service organized by the University of Illinois Student Alumni Ambassadors (SAA). SAA is a student-run organization on campus with the goal of developing positive relations and interactions among students, alumni, faculty and staff. On iHelp Day, a signature SAA event, students and alumni join forces to participate in community service projects on behalf of the University of Illinois. Check out the iHelp Facebook page for more information!

The Central Park Convervancy (CPC) is a private, not-for-profit organization founded in 1980.  The CPC raises 75% of Central Park's annual operating budget, and manages the Park under a contract with the City of New York.

  • Project Date: Saturday, September 23rd
  • Meeting Time:  9:45 AM (the project will finish at 1:00PM)
  • Location: Park entrance on 5th Avenue at 102nd St. (closest subway is the 6 train at 103rd St.)
  • Activities:  weeding
  • Equipment: All equipment, including work gloves and all tools, will be provided by the CPC.  They will also have water, feel free to bring a bottle for filling.
  • What to wear: Sturdy, closed-toe shoes are a must.  The CPC recommends that you wear long pants and a long-sleeved shirt to protect your skin - and be sure to wear Illini colors!! (but those that you don't mind getting a little dirty).  We may be in full sun, so bring sunscreen and a hat if you are sun-sensitive.

This is a great way to meet fellow NYC-area alumni, donate your time to both the U of I and your NYC community, maybe learn something new (about Central Park and/or landscape maintenance in general), and HAVE FUN!!

PLEASE CLICK HERE TO REGISTER (so we can tell the CPC how much equipment to provide).
